Meet the characters in Zoey Wonders Why Book 1

Zoey

In the first book, five-year-old Zoey lives in a culturally diverse household in the United States and attends a public elementary school. Compassionate and inquisitive, Zoey prioritizes others' feelings and explores her unique multicultural background compared to her peers. Her favorite hobby is baking, and she loves making cakes and cookies from her favorite books with her mom.

Max

Max, Zoey's youngest brother, also experiences mixed emotions due to his age. He enjoys playing with his toy cars and soccer. He deeply loves and admires his big sister Zoey and her activities. Despite having a speech delay, he is determined to communicate his thoughts effectively.

Zaki

Zaki, being the middle child, often feels overlooked and craves attention. He's a curious preschooler eager to fit in and emulate his older sister. As a loving younger brother, he enjoys family time and playing sports such as basketball.

Mika

Zoey's closest friend has been by her side since their preschool days. As neighbors, Mika and Zoey have shared countless memories. Mika, who comes from a culturally rich Polish family, introduces Zoey to various traditional dishes, from pierogies to bigos stew. Passionate about art, Mika aspires to become an illustrator in the future and always carries a sketchbook and pencils with her.

Sam

Sam is Zoey's second-closest friend, and they have known each other since infancy. Zoey's family has Nigerian cultural roots, and their mothers first connected at a mommy meet-and-greet. As young children, Sam and Zoey enjoyed playing together and eating tasty dishes like jollof rice and pounded yams. Sam excels at soccer and enjoys practicing in his backyard. He dreams of becoming an excellent soccer player and establishing a school where other children can learn and enjoy the sport.
